Ferdinand Kidd

iArt Gallery is proud to present Ferdinand Kidd's debut solo exhibition, Introverted Explorations. Like much of Kidd’s earlier work, Introverted Explorations showcases realistic charcoal drawings that suggest the surreal and melancholic. When placed alongside one another these visual reflections of supposedly unrelated physical structures (ships on a dark horizon, flyover bridges and other landscapes) form a cohesive body of work that speaks as much about the artist as the world he references. These tragic landscapes are gently muted by Kidd’s restrained and precise gradations of tone. Accompanying his charcoal drawings are a series of four sculptures called Constructed Towers.

Kidd’s linear sculptures are archetypal images inclined towards the realistic while his drawings are realistic images more inclined toward the archetypal. However, it is the tension that exists between these forms that works to investigate the artist’s subjective approach to reality. Ferdinand Kidd is currently completing his MFA at the University of Stellenbosch. He has exhibited in various group exhibitions in Stellenbosch and Cape Town over the last 5 years. The artist lives and works in Stellenbosch.
